Intel used the LGA1151 socket across two incompatible generations, so this Skylake i7-6700 works only in 100-series and 200-series motherboards, never 300-series boards. Keep it separate from the 91W unlocked i7-6700K and the 35W low-power i7-6700T.
Rated at 65W with four cores, eight threads and a 4GHz boost, retail boxes originally included a basic Intel cooler. Most boards pair it with DDR4, though DDR3 boards must use 1.35V DDR3L rather than 1.5V sticks.
